Jakarta, March 1st, 2014 - The construction industries plays a major role in supporting the development of environment and society. Not only for activity, a good building will be able to improve the life quality of its users. Recognizing the importance of building in the urban planning, Holcim Foundation, Holcim Group non profit organization, organized Holcim Awards, The 4th International Holcim Awards competition encourages all paricipant to create a building solutions and visions that go beyond convention to address the challenges of sustainability.
"In line with Holcim's vision of building a sustainable solution for the future of our society, we want the process of development that occurs still considering the needs of future generations. A good building should provide space for water infiltration, in addition, the design should also be able to save energy used. Therefore, we are keep continue to educate the public about sustainable construction through Holcim Awards competition that we held." Said Eamon Ginley, President Director of PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk.
Holcim Awards competition seek projects or ideas that implement 5P aspect which is Progress, People, Planet, Prosperity, and Proficiency. This 5p aspects include demonstrate innovation at the forefront of sustainable construction, provide an advanced response in terms of ethical and social responsibility, preserve natural resources, contribute to the welfare, and have a lasting aesthetic impact on its surrounding environment.
The total prize money for the Holcim Awards 4 Cycle competitions is USD 2 million, with two categories, Holcim Awards Main Category and Next Generations. Engineers, architects, contractors, project owner who pay attention to sustainable construction concept for their project, can participate in this competition. In addition, Holcim also give an opportunity for college student and young professional to share their innovative and bold ideas to participate in the competition implement their idea about design that has a sustainable construction concept to enter the competition by Next Generations category.
"Indonesia is a country with great potential in developing sustainable construction ideas. This is also supported by the process of rapid development. Unfortunately at this time there are many people have less attention to the concept of sustainable development. For example, the number of green building in Indonesia is still very low. High cost of investment often become the obstacles. Although, with the addition of 5% investment cost, we already can save around 50% energy usage. Moreover a lot of building don’t have a “green area” for water conserve. This causes a potential risk for flooding when the rainy season come.” Said Gunawan Tjahjono, Architecture Expert and Holcim Awards Ambassador for Asia Pasific Region.
Indonesia Has The Highest Number of Participant in The World
Ranidia Leeman , Commercial Building Solution Manager PT Holcim Indonesia Tbk said, the firm hopes to provide a solution for the existing problems through the application of sustainable construction. Especially from the ideas that come from Holcim Awards competition. Indonesia has a huge potential. Currently the number of participants from Indonesia is the highest when compared with other countries in the world . This shows that Indonesian people are very enthusiastic about the concept of sustainable construction. Another excitement that this year participant from Indonesia have the opportunity to compete in national level. National level competition is divided into two categories: the Main Category and Next Generations. As a form of appreciation, the committee prepare a special prizes such as trip to Singapore and Singapore and Switzerland as well as tens of millions of dollars in cash for the winner."
In this Holcim Awards 4th Cycle, for the first time, the winner announcement ceremony of the Asia Pacific region will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Jakarta was chosen as a host city because it is the capital of Indonesia, which has a large and growing population in the Asia -Pacific , thereby have a lot of innovative ideas of sustainable construction.
