Holcim Awards 4th Cycle Bring a New Level of sustainable construction to Indonesian Society
Jakarta, October 18th, 2013 – Assosiation of Indonesian Architect (IAI) – Jakarta and Holcim Indonesia held press conference and seminar about sustainable construction, the concept that committed to the “triple bottom line”, which asserts that long-term and sustainable progress requires the balanced achievement of economic development, environmental performance and social advancement. This program was a part of Design Week, a series of activities organized by IAI-Jakarta that educated people about the role of arcitects and construction experts in implemented sustainable construction concept. Allign with the event, Holcim also promotes the Holcim Awards 4th Cycle that has been held by Holcim Foundation, a non profitable organization to seek leading projects from industry professionals and bold ideas from the “Next Generation” that contribute to sustainability.
“Architects, students, engineers, project owner, and construction companies has a very significance role in created a good building for communities. In that term, Holcim and the Association of Indonesian Architects (IAI) apparently has a same understanding on sustainable construction concept. Therefore, we collaborated to organized this event.” Said Steve. J Manahampi, Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Architects (IAI), Jakarta.
Holcim Awards competition seek projects or ideas that implement 5P aspect which is Progress, People, Planet, Prosperity, and Proficiency. This 5p aspects include demonstrate innovation at the forefront of sustainable construction, provide an advanced response in terms of ethical and social responsibility, preserve natural resources, contribute to the welfare, and have a lasting aesthetic impact on its surrounding environment. The total prize money for the Holcim Awards 4 Cycle competitions is USD 2 million, with two categories, Holcim Awards Main Category and Next Generations. Engineers, architects, contractors, project owner who pay attention to sustainable construction concept for their project, can participate in this competition. In addition, Holcim also give an opportunity for college student and young professional to share their innovative and bold ideas to participate in the competition implement their idea about design that has a sustainable construction concept to enter the competition by Next Generations category.
“With this 2 categories, we hope people will share their ideas on sustainable constructions, That include building sector, infrastructure, or technology. Many local elements in Indonesia can be manifest in created a building. This has been proved in Holcim Awards 3rd Cycle Competition. 3 project from Indonesia has won Acknoledgement Awards Prizes in Asia Pacific level. “As an international competition, the juries consist of independent, renowned representatives from science, business and society choose from every different countries. For Holcim Awards in regional level, Indonesia was represented by Davy Sukamta, one of the Building Construction advisor. A hundred project with sustainable construction in Indonesia was handled by his company. “It was an honour for me to participate in this competition as a judges. Personally, I think Indonesia has a lot of potential. There’s many challenge for the participant to create a building in Indonesia, but that also can give an idea to find the best solutions as an answer to that challenges.” Said Davy Sukamta, Judges of Holcim Awards 4th Cycle for Asia Pacific Region.
